# Set your avatar

An avatar is the small picture that represents you across KolleK: in the member list, next to your entries in the activity feed, and in the user menu. Without one, KolleK shows a generated placeholder instead. This page covers uploading one and taking it down again.

## Upload an avatar

From [your profile](https://getkollek.com/en/docs/account-and-profile/edit-your-profile), choose to change your avatar and pick an image file.

A few practical rules:

- Use a **JPEG**, **PNG**, or **WebP** image.
- The file can be up to **5 MB**.
- The image is displayed square, so a roughly square picture will look best. A wide or tall image is cropped.

Save, and your new avatar appears everywhere immediately.

## Remove your avatar

From the same place, choose to remove the avatar. KolleK goes back to showing the generated placeholder for you. You can upload a new picture at any time.
