# Share a collection

Every collection carries a visibility setting that records who it is meant for. This page shows you how to set it, and is honest about what the setting does today, because sharing is a capability KolleK is still growing into.

The three levels, explained fully in [visibility and sharing](https://getkollek.com/en/docs/core-concepts/visibility-and-sharing):

- **Private.** Meant for you alone.
- **Shared.** Meant for everyone in your account.
- **Public.** Meant for anyone with the link, read only, without signing in.

Today the setting records your intent but is not yet enforced. Every member of your account can still browse every collection, and there is no public link to hand out yet, so nothing is reachable from outside your account at all. ## Change a collection's visibility

Open the [collection](https://getkollek.com/en/docs/core-concepts/collections) and choose to edit it. Visibility lives on the collection itself, alongside its name and emoji.

Select **Private**, **Shared**, or **Public**.

Save the collection. The setting is stored immediately.

Emma marks her "Wishlist Research" collection private, "My Comics" shared for Sam and Leo, and "Vintage Posters" public, ready for the day she can send a link around.

## Why set it now

Setting visibility today means your catalogue already behaves correctly the moment sharing is switched on. A collection you marked private will become private, and one you marked public will get its link, without you having to revisit every collection then.

When public links arrive, a public collection will be viewable by anyone who has the link, without signing in, including every item, photo, and detail in it. Do not mark a collection public if you would not be comfortable with that, especially if it reveals what you own and where you live.

## Make it private again

Edit the collection and set its visibility back to **Private** (or **Shared**) at any time. The setting applies to the collection from that moment on.

Sharing controls who can see a collection. What members can do with it is decided by their role, not by visibility. A viewer cannot edit anything, and an editor can. See [the three roles in practice](https://getkollek.com/en/docs/collaboration/roles-in-practice).
