Tag and find items
Tags are the lightest way to mark items with something they have in common, across every collection in your account. This page covers applying them, removing them, and habits that keep them useful.
Add tags to an item
On the item form, use the tags field:
- Pick an existing tag from your account's shared list, or
- Type a new one and it is created on the spot, ready to reuse everywhere.
An item can carry as many tags as you like. Emma tags her signed issues "Signed" whether they live in her Comics collection or her Graphic Novels collection. The tag is the same label in both.
Remove a tag from an item
Edit the item and remove the tag from the tags field. The tag itself survives in the account list, and every other item keeping it is untouched.
Curate the shared list
Because tags are shared account wide, the list itself is managed in one place, from account settings. Renaming and deleting tags there is covered in Manage account tags.
Deleting a tag from the account removes that label from every item that carried it. The items themselves are not affected in any other way.
Habits that keep tags useful
- Tag qualities, not categories. "Signed", "First printing", "Needs repair", "To sell" are good tags. "Comics" is a collection, and "Marvel" is probably a category.
- Reuse before you invent. Two spellings of the same idea ("Signed" and "Autographed") split your catalogue in half. Pick existing tags when they fit.
- Keep the list short. A handful of tags you actually filter by beats fifty you have to remember.
