Manage item conditions

A condition grades the physical state of a copy. This page covers managing the condition list itself from account settings, as opposed to grading a single copy, which is covered in Track the copies you own.

You need the editor or owner role.

Start from the defaults

A fresh account comes with five starter conditions: New, Like New, Used, Worn, and Damaged. They are not locked in any way: rename them, delete them, or add to them like any condition you create yourself.

Create, rename, and delete

Open Item conditions in account settings to see every condition in the account.

• Create a condition ahead of time when your hobby needs a grade the starter list does not cover, such as a specific term from a formal grading scale.
• Rename a condition to fix a typo or change its wording. Renaming updates the label everywhere the condition is already applied.
• Delete a condition you no longer want, including one from the starter list.

Keep the list meaningful

Conditions are most useful when everyone who catalogues agrees on what each grade means.

• Agree on wording early if several people catalogue together. Decide what "Used" means for your hobby once, and apply it consistently. See grading consistently.
• Keep the list short. A handful of grades you actually use beats a long list that nobody remembers the difference between.
• Use a custom field for a formal scale. If your community grades on a fine-grained scale (coin collectors and their MS numbers, for example), a Select custom field on the type can hold the precise grade while the condition keeps your practical, everyday one.
