Create your account

Signing up gives you two things at once: a personal user to log in with, and a fresh account to hold your collections. This page walks you through it and explains a few things that might otherwise surprise you.

Before you start

You need the address of your KolleK instance. If you self host, that is the URL you set up during installation. If someone hosts KolleK for you, they will give you the link.

Sign up

Open your instance and go to the registration page. Fill in:

• First name and last name.
• Email address. This is how you sign in and where KolleK sends you things like sign in links and security notices.
• Password.
• Your agreement to the terms. The box confirming you agree with the terms of use and the privacy policy has to be ticked. The form will not go through until it is.

Then submit the form. You are signed in immediately and taken to your new, empty account.

A few guardrails to expect

KolleK checks a few things when you register, so you are not caught out:

• Disposable email addresses are rejected. Use an address you will keep, since account recovery and notifications depend on it.
• Your password must be at least eight characters.
• Weak or breached passwords are refused. KolleK checks your password against lists of passwords known to have leaked in past breaches. If yours has appeared in one, you will be asked to choose another. This is about the password itself, not your account, so pick something you have not used elsewhere.

What you get

Creating an account sets up two things:

A user, which is you. Your personal login, tied to your email.

An account, which is your workspace. You are its owner, which means you can do everything: catalogue items, invite other people, and change account settings. Roles are covered later, when you start inviting others.

Your account is not empty

To save you starting from a blank page, a new account arrives with a set of ready made collection types already in place, such as Comics, Vinyl Records, Coins, and Books, along with a few default storage locations. You can use them as they are, rename them, or ignore them. They are only a starting point.

About email verification

After you register, KolleK sends a verification email. Verifying is good practice, because it confirms your address works.
